Transforming the Operating Model of Healthcare
U.S. hospitals spend over $1 trillion annually on operations. Administrative costs have grown to nearly double the cost of direct patient care, squeezing margins and putting extreme pressure on the health systems we all rely on.
This isn’t just a spending problem; it is a structural one. Healthcare operational workflows break down because decisions and processes are fragmented, spread across people, policies and systems that were not designed to reason together. Today, health systems run on a human coordination layer, where staff manually interpret and process faxes, EHR messages, payer policies, contracts, and other unstructured data to fill the gaps between disconnected systems.
While the industry has introduced software for individual steps, these point solutions operate in silos, often increasing the coordination burden by adding new queues and failure modes. The system becomes more complex without becoming more effective.
We built Luminai to change that. We provide an operational agent platform that orchestrates work across teams and systems. Our approach moves beyond simple execution to create a connected system of operational understanding, allowing health systems to focus less on run-away admin costs and more on patient care.
AI Built for the Realities of Healthcare
Deploying AI in healthcare requires navigating fragmented data, complex workflows, and strict infrastructure, security, regulatory, and compliance requirements. Luminai is built specifically for this environment:
- Unlocking Unstructured Data: Healthcare runs on unstructured data like faxes, handwritten notes, chart notes and contracts. Our platform is designed to translate this messy reality into actionable, structured data, providing a foundation for end-to-end workflow execution while keeping full context intact from start to finish.
- Encoding Institutional Judgment: But structured data alone isn’t enough. Every health system is different. Instead of relying on implicit "tribal knowledge," we encode operational logic into versioned, auditable infrastructure. This ensures that decisions—such as routing a referral or handling a billing exception—are consistent, traceable, and aligned with a health system's specific SOPs.
- Continuous Learning Loops: Healthcare is exception-heavy. When a process hits an ambiguity, Luminai routes the work to the right team with full context rather than breaking the workflow. These human interventions are fed back into the system, allowing the platform to learn from every outcome and improve over time.
Delivering real value requires deep partnership. Our forward-deployed engineering teams work closely with health system operators on the ground, delivering results in weeks and expanding from there as each workflow builds on the last.
$38M Series B to Accelerate Our Mission
To fuel this growth, we have raised $38M in Series B funding, bringing our total funding to $60M. The round was led by Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia India), with participation from Define Ventures, General Catalyst, Y Combinator, and Scribble Ventures.
We are also supported by Bob McGrew, former Chief Research Officer of OpenAI, Kevin Weil, former Chief Product Officer of OpenAI, and advisors through Define like Toby Cosgrove from Cleveland Clinic, Bruce Broussard from Humana, Frank Williams from Evolent Health as well.
This capital allows us to scale our platform foundation that already supports 12 million workflow automations with an average time to value of just 48 days.
